Antique La' Mode Godey's Fashion Magazine Pages Framed and Matted, Pages from a Mid-1800s Fashion Magazine, Probably Framed Later. Great Condition. Nice and Large at 24" Wide and 17 1/4" Tall.
I purchased this at an estate sale in the early 70s and was told then that it was taken from an original Godey's Magazine from about 1875, and that it was framed much later. The frame is wonderful in an almost Ash Wood with Gold trim. There is a matte cut to fit both illustrations. store The illustrations themselves are wonderful in that the coloring is so very subtle and classy. Godey's was a well read magazine that showed the ladies all the fashion of the times. You could also order patterns from the magazine and sewing notions.
Godey's Lady's Book, alternatively known as Godey's Magazine and Lady's Book, was an American women's magazine that was published in Philadelphia from 1830 to 1878. It was the most widely circulated magazine in the period before the Civil War. Its circulation rose from 70,000 in the 1840s to 150,000 in 1860. In the 1860s Godey's considered itself the "queen of monthlies".
