Katharina Laboure was born in Fain les Moutiers city of France on May 2nd 1806. Her parents, who were good Catholics, had her baptized the day after she was born. Her childhood was quite peaceful and happy. Kathatina became very upset when she lost her mother at the age of nine.
Because Katharina learned to have a deep affection for Mother Mary, she opened her heart to “her mother who was in the skies” and she took shelter in her. After her mother's death, it was her aunt Huberta Laboure who took care of her and tried to be a mother to her. In the mean time, Katharina's elder sister Marie Louise joined Vinzenz monastery as a nun.
After this, Katharina left her aunt's house and returned to her father's house and started to do housework like washing clothes, dishes and cleaning. At the same time she used to feed around 700-800 white pigeons. Whenever she went out to the garden to feed them, the pigeons lined up in the air to form a huge crown and kind of performed a show. Katharina's sister never forgot this scene. Whenever she had spare time, Katharina used to go to the nearby church, sit by the stone floor and pray for hours. Everyone in the village used to know about her and used to love her. Her father always wanted her to get married. However, she wanted to become a nun just like her sister. She was 22 years old then and her sister was already grown up to take care of housework. It was time Katharine told her father about her decision to become a nun. Her father Laboure said no to her in a very determined manner. Katharina started to wait for help from the silent and calm skies and prayed. Her father Laboure decided to send her to his son Karl's house to Paris. Karl had a restaurant in Paris. store Laboure thought that her daughter would change her mind in Paris. Katharine accepted his father's offer and went to Paris. God was to support her in Paris as well, she knew it. Katharina started to fulfill her duty in the best way near Karl but she just couldn't get rid of the idea of becoming a nun. It had been one year since she had come to Paris and one day she had a chance to talk to the Head of the nun at the Vinzenz Monastery and opened her heart to her. After her aunt Huberta's support, her father finally gave her permission. Katharina joined Chatillon Sur Seine Monastery in 1830 and after six months she was taken to the main building, the Rue du Bac Monastery. Starting from the first day, she lived a very calm and humble life. Her heart was like lucid water and her greatest desire was to see Mother Mary. She was silent and patient, waiting to see her dream come true.
Mother Mary displayed herself to Katharina at Rue du Bac Church three times. On July 18th 1830, Katharina was woken up by her guardian Angel and taken to inside of the church. Mother Mary was sitting there on a couch, waiting for Katharina. Mother Mary talked to her for two hours. Katharina said to her:
''I lived the most precious moments of my life here, there are no words to tell how I felt here”
Mother Mary displayed herself on November 27th 1830 at 18:00 at the same place. She was on top of a globe, with one foot pressing on the head of a snake. She told Katharina, “This globe represents the whole world, particularly France and one by one every person”. Mother Mary's appearance changed suddenly, she released her arms and opened her hands and suddenly the stones of her rings glazed.
''These lights are the symbol of grace, I will give to everyone who wants it” and Mother Mary got surrounded by these letters. “You sinless Mary, pray for us who took refuge in you.” Mother Mary said to Katharina, “Have a medallion made in this shape in which I displayed myself and whoever carries it would gain grace and larger gifts will be given to those who carry it with good faith”. After a time, the appearance of the back side of the medallion occurred. Katharina saw a letter “M” wound around a cross, and below them were the hearts of Jesus and Mother Mary.
Katharina told to Father Aladel about it, and after listening to her in patience, he tried hard to make her change her mind. Months were passing by but Mother Mary's wish was just not being realized. When Mother Mary showed herself for the third time, she said to her “Katharina as you see Father Aladel does not believe you, the day will come and he will believe in you and he will approve my wish”, and after two years and after getting the approval of Paris's Bishop, the medallion was made, and starting with the day it was distributed, the number of believers increased rapidly and many sick people got healed in miraculous way. The Bishop started an investigation to collect information about the truthness of this event in 1835. Finally, the Church's Board confirmed the miracles of the medallion and the fact that Mother Mary displayed herself to Katharina. Everyday, Father Aladel, heard about the miracles of the medallion and even he himself witnessed them. Vechette-the company in Paris, which made the printing of the medallion, stated that they printed 18 million copper and 2 million golden and silver medallions in 10 years. Sister Katharina Laboure was not introduced to anyone until she died, neither the nuns at the monastery nor anyone else in the world knew her, and the secret of the medallion was kept. Katharina did not want to advertise herself or have others admire her and continued to pursue her mission in a secret and humble fashion. Katharina worked at the Enghien House for the Elderly and washed the dishes, cleaned the floors, washed their clothes and worked in the vegetable garden.
In 1876, she started to talk about her death and said, “I won't be able to see year 1877 “and on December 31st 1876 at 7 p.m. and died without any pain and with a peaceful smile on her face (just like all children of Mother Mary did). She was buried in the basement of the Church where she prayed for 47 years. In 1907, Catholic church started the relevant procedures to give her the title of Saint. In 1933, Katharina's grave was opened and her body was still intact, even tough she was buried in a humid environment, her body was not rotten at all and even her eyes were the same blue and even her clothes were not rotten either. On July 27th 1947, Katharina Laboure was announced as a Saint. Her unrotten body is still at the Rue du Bac church in Paris.
SOME MIRACLES:
An army officer's story: '' I owe my life to this miracle medallion” We were four people at a very dangerous place. I could hear the bullets passing on my both sides. Suddenly and unwillingly, I moved a few steps forwards. This move saved my life. The other three were shot and lying on the ground. I was able to survive as a miracle.
Vienna ,Austria, December, 1943.
It was January 1945. The sirens were ringing. In a few minutes the sound of the first bombs came. The enemy forces wanted to bombard the airport. The personnel were in panic and were trying to hide inside the nearby forest and basement. A young man, who was trying to run away via the airport, was coming back. Because he had forgotten something important for him. He was holding an envelope sent by his mother. There were two miracle medallions inside the envelopes. A young girl, one of the airport personnel, was trying to go out as the last person when this young man put one of the medallions in her hand. It was not possible for them to move any further. Enemy planes were very close. The moment they threw themselves on the ground, they started to hear the bomb sounds and people crying and yelling. It was dust and smoke all over the place. A few minutes later, the place was calm and silent. They heard people moaning instead of the bomb sounds. There were pieces of corpse on the branches of trees that fell on the ground. The airport was totally destructed. What about that young man?
Well, he didn't even have a bleeding nose. Among those corpses, they stood up. God, the mightiest of all, had protected them.
Miss L. P; was trying to tell to her friends about the miracles of the medallion and make them believe it. She had lived those miracles directly. There was this old men she knew very well. He was against church. He spent his time with atheists. Miss LP was very sorry about him but it was no use talking to him. One day, Miss L.P. had a chance to sew that medallion into his pocket secretly and started to pray for that man.
And God showed his mercy for this atheist man as well and touched his restless and dark heart. The man was surprised and he was full of regret. But even he himself couldn't understand where it came from. His steps took him to the church and suddenly he found himself inside the church which he had not come to for years and he made confession. After an hour, he got out relieved of his burden and very happy. A miracle had happened. He was feeling an inner peace that the world has never known. Vienna, Austria 1943
Miss L. P tells us again; ''There was this old lady I knew. She caused so much trouble for her children. She was living in darkness with no faith. When they tried to give her the miracle medallion she had mocked at them and refused it. When she moved towards the door to get out, she slipped down the stairs and fell badly. She broke her leg and was hospitalized. Doctors discovered some other conditions she also had. During her time at the hospital, she had a chance to think about her life and her mistakes. One day she took the medallion she refused before and put it on. She could never recover but, her soul found peace. When she died painlessly and in peace, she was holding the miracle medallion in her hand.
Father Antonio; It was 1947 and he was an ordinary church officer living in Brazil. He knew about the miracles of the medallion from his own experience. After Katharina Louboure was announced as a Saint in Rome, his faith in the medallion had increased further.
There were many patients visiting Father Antonio. Among them were the paralyzed, blind, def etc...Father Antonio used to pray for them and give a medallion to each of them as gift. He used to put the medallions in a glass of water and they used to drink it, and after this, different miracles used to occur everyday and people used to tell about them to each other. As a result, more and more people used to come to the monastery. Again one day, Father Antonio made his prayer in the middle of the public waiting for healing. “Greetings to you God's beloved daughter Mary” and he continued “you sinless Mary, pray for us for we took refuge in you”. Then he distributed the medallions. Everyone put their medallions in the water and drank it and Father Antonio continued his prayer. He said that special prayer for the sick. Then from the crowd, a sound was heard, “I can see, I can see”, and then another “I can walk”. A speechless and def child said “mother” for the first time. People were crying out of joy and were praising God. They shouted “Thank you Mother Mary”. In Brazil, thousands of people recovered as a result of the prayers of Father Antonio. Who knows how many more would recover thanks to the miracle medallion?
This bracelet only serves goodness. This bracelet is bestowed to humans to remind them of God and to think positively and it wants people to carry it not as a mediator but as a reminder.
Humans always look for a spell or a gift that brings luck to them. But the greatest spell is hidden inside the hearts of people.
How good it is for those who see the goodness inside and guide themselves towards positive thoughts and those who do not pray for help to anything other than God.
