In African art, "settlers" are anthropomorphic figurative African sculptures of various aspects, frequently depicting Westerners. Elements are constant: civil servants' costumes, religious outfits, soldiers' uniforms, helmets, etc. Expressions of naive art or social caricatures, they also take on bright store and colorful hues most of the time.
Among the Baoule, however, this type of sculpture also embodied the "ideal spouse" in a ritual context.
