This red and white fascinator Kentucky Derby hat features vintage red silk and velvet poppies, white fabric narcissus, sprays of white fabric flowers, red felt flowers with yellow centers and some vintage red and white fabric dangle flowers. Two bunches of pre-WW II fabric poppy buds are also tucked in among the poppies.
The variety of flowers provides visual interest from all angles. A white butterfly flutters on the back of the hat. The flowers sit atop a white sinamay base.

Measuring Your Hat Size

Different styles of hats will sit differently on your head. Some, like cloches, fit tight and low, store and others, like pillboxes, sit on top of your head. How a hat fits and sits on your head is a matter of personal choice-it is whatever feels right for you.

So, how do you know the right hat size? You will want your hat to fit comfortably. Measuring your hat size is not an exact science-you can usually take it to the nearest 1/8 or 1/4 inch. Use a tape measure (if you don't have one, a piece of string will work) and wrap it once around your head, slightly above the top of your ears and across your forehead. Keep in mind that where you are measuring is where the hat will sit. If you have a favorite hat, put it on and make note of where it sits and then measure the same place. Make sure to hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly-unless you want a tightly fitted hat.
