Japanese vintage wooden sculpture of Cranes and clouds openwork, decoration on buddhist temple altar in 19th century, H1.3xW13.4in.

A pair of Japanese vintage wood carving which decorated buddhist temple altar in Edo period 19th century. Motifs are Cranes and clouds. Cranes are a symbol for a long life and auspicious.
The crane is also a symbol of marital fidelity, as it is said that once a couple becomes a couple, they stay together for life.
The composition is well balanced and details are carved delicately. Especially expressions on techniques for carving with depth and three-dimensionality.

It can be pasted on and decorated for boxes and picture frames.
