Jeanne store Signed 3D Porcupine Animal Figural Brooch, Gold Plated, Vintage Mid Century 1960s, RARE
This whimsical and adorable, yet elegant figural porcupine pin is gold plated and wonderfully three-dimensional. Gold plated wire is hand looped in a spiral pattern for its quills, the body is woven like a basket from short tail end to slender snout, the legs are the same wire twisted to show four legs/feet that are walking along, and the eye is a red rhinestone, prong set in gold plate. This neat guy has character; a great conversation piece!
This impressive work of costume jewelry art measures 1.75" tall X 2 1/8" wide X 13/16" of an inch deep (quills pop out from base/body of animal).
This fun brooch is hallmarked "JEANNE" on a raised, oval cartouche or metal tag on the back. Very little is known about this jewelry maker/designer, but located in New York city, the company created well made jewelry, and were mentioned in Seventeen magazine in 1962 and 1963. The quality of Jeanne jeweler's costume jewelry is above average, and there's not a lot of it to go around. I would not be surprised if store this little wonder is a book piece somewhere, it is so well done and unique in its design!
In really excellent condition with a beautiful, shiny gold plated finish; no wear to gold plating. The pin has a roll-over clasp, which works fine with a firm hold.
