Product code: Traditional 1940s Hobé Floral Bouquet Brooch - Sterling Silver - Very Pretty! Rose, Leaves Wrapped store with Bow & Ribbons 338

This is a traditional collector's Hobé floral bow brooch in sterling silver - very pretty! The design is a large rose / flower with five etched leaves to the left all wrapped up in a pretty bow with ribbons.

The closest matching brooch was designed in 1942 and patented by W. W. HOBE in the same year under the patent number 132,323. The difference is that the sketch depicts the addition of a swirl-stem and larger (but less in number of) leaves than this particular offshoot of the design - both are gorgeous and just a matter of preference! These particular bouquet brooches do all vary by the height, number and color of stones (if present), number of leaves, and the intricate design of the buds (and number) and baby's breath presence. The stems and ribbons/bow at the center is usually the same.

As any piece this old, this piece does have natural patina and a slight bit of wear but overall it's in good vintage condition! Most collectors do like to have this natural patina as it highlights the age of the piece.

As perhaps other designers, Hobé used sterling silver in the late 1930s and 1940s due to lack of other metals which were being used in the war effort.

This brooch measures 3-1/2" x 2", weighs 19g and is marked "Hobé STERLING" on a triangle silver plate.

This is a lovely and 'must-have' Hobé piece for any collector!

I thank you for your visit and please check back with RhinestoneCafé - I will be adding new Hobé items regularly! Also feel free to ask questions, and make an offer!

Please note that the international shipping cost listed is an estimate and could be LOWER or higher than the $13.95 listed, depending on the country it's going to - happy to discuss.

About Hobé From Collectors' Weekly:
"Hobé Cie was founded in 1887 by goldsmith Jacques Hobé, but when costume-jewelry collectors think of Hobé, they picture the tasselled and beaded necklaces made by Jacques' son, William, who established an American offshoot of the company in 1927. That put Hobé at the beginning of the American costume-jewelry boom between the two world wars. In fact, some scholars believe that Hobé actually had a hand in the phrase “costume jewelry” itself. After the younger Hobé landed in New York, but before he started his company, one of the his first assignments store was to make costumes and jewelry for the "Ziegfeld Follies." According to some historians, Florenz Ziegfeld described the jewelry that accompanied Hobé's costumes as costume jewelry. Hobé's showbiz origins served the company well. By the 1940s and '50s, Hollywood stars such as Bette Davis and Ava Gardner were wearing Hobé. Especially prized today are the floral pins of that era, which featured tight clusters of vermeil petals. Earlier Hobé pieces that remain popular with collectors include filigreed bracelets and pins, some of which featured Victorian-style portraits or Japanese netsuke-like figures as focal points."
