Rare antique urn. Subject matter - frolicking hand painted maidens wearing long flowing gowns one playing a timbre. The pastoral scene reflects joyfulness. Measures 8 7/8 inches tall, fluted top 2 1/2 inch diameter, bottom of base 3 1/4 in and widest point 4 1/2 in. Colours are vibrant, rich burnt orange, browns, turquoise, greens and cream. One side has a scene with maidens, the other shows trees in various tan shades. Numbered mark 36/500 is on base. Urn has feathery age lines and slight age related paint wear. The base is brown with gold mixed to give it a glow. Elaborate scrolled handles and fluted top are gilded. Maidens gowns are soft turquoise, greens and deep peach colours. Although I enjoyed researching this uncommon urn I decided to reach out to an expert, his opinion is this is a French piece and style is consistent with Limoges.
