store This handmade Gaiwan is glazed in a Fenyin (white slip glaze) style. It comes from a studio in Jingdezhen, China. It is made with rough clay, resulting in a grained and bumpy appearance. Finished with a transparent glaze throughout, soft to the touch and easy on the eye.
As you may be able to spot in the photo, this gaiwan has strong character, featuring the unique patterns caused by deliberate cracking. These crackles will absorb the color of tea and gradually it will be dyed. I recommend you to only use it to brew teas of a similar colour. Over time you will see the slow change as you use it to brew your tea.
The wide, slanted rim means it is easy to handle, and won't become hot and burn your fingers.
Please note that this item has been crafted by hand, and the marks on the surface are not defects, but part of its design. Every sale piece has been carefully selected by the potter from the kiln.
