Bridal Favors yarder by Mary store E. Hart; 34" framed picture of lilacs, hydrangeas and violets with a golden vase hidden in background; 1890's
This 34 1/2 in. framed print done by Mary E Hart (original was done in the late 1800's) was hung in my grandparents summer kitchen year around. They used the "summer" kitchen all year even though they called it their summer kitchen. The most use was in the summer to keep heat out of the better kitchen which store was remodeled in the 1940's. The measurements above are of the print - THE FRAME IS 36 1/2" x 11 1/2".
The frame is vintage - it has lost paint and some of the gold trim has fallen away. There is a crack on the outside edge on the right of the frame toward the bottom. The glass is in good condition. The print itself does have issues - but the Antiques Roadshow always says this can be repaired. I do not know this for sure but I usually believe what they state. I would take more photos at your request before purchase. The fourth photo shows the artist's name if you zoom in. Some of the photos look as if the paper is cracked or torn - this is just reflection from the glass. There are no tears but there looks to be some smudging of the paper also on the left hand side. It does have stain damage on the left hand side mostly but there is yellowing throughout.
An area frame shop said the issues shown in the third photo are from the wooden backing bleeding through on the print. There are specialists that can restore this by taking a new photo of it is what I understood. Please know there are brownish issues on the print and it is being sold as is. (See photo 9 for the wood backing that I mention above).
It is a gorgeous illustration called "Bridal Favors" and has mostly purple and white flowers that have a golden vase not quite in the center of the print. Violets and lilacs are my favorite spring flowers and I believe that is what the purple and white full blossoms are - although the white could be hydrangeas. They do not bloom at the same time however.
You can look up Mary E Hart art on the Internet - I disagree with the type flowers they describe in this "Bridal Favors" print!
The postage is an estimate and I will RESERVE this for you if you are interested but it will not be shipped until I get the zip code that it would be shipped to so that I can get an accurate price. Because it is so fragile, I will be sending this via UPS and packaged by them. Prices have really gone up for this service.
