Much sought after and hard to find vintage 1940 First Commercial Edition New Orleans Cook Book by Lena Richard. Richard was an African American caterer in New Orleans who opened a cooking school in 1937 and wrote and store self published her own cookbook in 1939. At the urging of James Beard, Houghton Mifflin Company published this revised and re-titled edition the following year. This book is in fair used condition and the original dust jacket is missing but the binding is quite strong and most of the pages are still quite clean. Showing shelf wear and some light staining on the outside and a few random marks etc on the inside. There is an ink inscription inside - see photo and please click to enlarge all 10 photographs for a closer inspection overall.
