Bowls should invite you in. I try to do this with every bowl I make.
I aim to make bowls that are tactile, that feel pleasant in the hands. They are made by hand on the wheel, literally fitting the proportions of my own hands -- they should feel right when cupped in yours! I aim for balance between the rim and the volume it store describes, and between the volume and foot that supports it. If a bowl doesn't feel right when picked up, if it isn't interesting in some way, I don't sell it.
ON UTILITY:
I am a firm believer in W.Morris's golden rule: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful".
My pots are made to be USED! (Useful, and beautiful; that is the key.) I think they should also feel human. If you want something perfect (and dead): buy it from a shop. If you want something that will bring you surprise and joy every time you use it — buy something handmade.
I try to make everything as light as possible, as useful as possible, and as right-feeling as possible. I hope you like my pots!
