Kosta Boda Glass Owl Figurine, Kosta Boda Zoo, Vicke Lindstrand Art Glass, Lindstrand Glass Owl Paperweight, Kosta Owl Sculpture, Kosta Owl
This listing is for a vintage 20th century Swedish modern art glass figurine in the shape of a cute owl. This glass figurine was created by the Swedish artist, Vicke Lindstrand, for Kosta Boda Glass. It was most likely created in the mid 1970's. The stylized figurine's two eyes, beak, as well as the feathers on the front body and head were hand etched. The figurine stands just under 4 inches tall and measures 2 inches in diameter. The figurine is in excellent vintage condition with respect to it's age and use. It is clean and free of any chips, cracks, or repairs. There are several tiny pinhead size bubbles inside the head and body and some light shelf wear on the bottom which is signed "Kosta" and with the numbers "L62458". There is also a line in the glass on the side of the head that appears to be from production. This is a cute, whimsical piece of decorative modern art store glass that would look at home in a child's bedroom or in your living room.
Victor Emanuel Lindstrand, better known as Vicke Lindstrand (Born 27 November 1904 in Gothenburg – Died 7 May 1983 in Kosta) was a well known Swedish glass designer, textile and ceramic designer, and painter. He is considered one of the pioneers of Swedish glass art. As a child, Lindstrand was interested in drawing and later studied commercial art. He worked in commercial illustration before beginning his career at the glass manufacturer, Orrefors, in 1928. He pioneered daring art glass designs at Orrefors and, together with Edvin Öhrström and Knut Bergqvist, he invented the Ariel technique. Orrefors could not afford to keep Lindstrand during the war, so between 1943 and 1950, he became creative leader at Uppsala Ekeby, where he designed many different stoneware objects ranging from pots to figural sculptures. In 1950, Lindstrand joined Kosta Glasbruk as an artistic director before his retirement in 1973. At Kosta, he was the primary designer, lending his name to many now classic designs.
