French vintage, crumb tray and brush / table butler / table brush, silver plated table decor circa 1920s.

A charming ensemble of crumb tray and brush. The idea is that you sweep the crumbs onto the crumb tray and use it between courses to keep your table clean and tidy. Often these trays have a brush like this one. A crumb tray and brush are especially useful here in France as the French often tear off some bread and then keep it on the table cloth during the meal. In between courses it is quite common for the crumb tray to be passed round to get rid of all the baguette remnants in preparation for the next plat!

This is useful set and a great talking point at your dinner party!

The style has a hint of the geometric in store design and it dates to around the 1910s / 1920s in the early Art Deco period and end of the Art Nouveau period.

There is a silver mark on the back of the tray for V L and 18 for the amount of silver in the plate.

The scoop and brush have been used and there are signs of age and wear. A few scratches here and there and also wear on the silver plate.

It is still a very usable ensemble and a stylish addition to any table.
