A Cat and His Dog, a Cat and Dog Portrait in Watercolor on Cradled Aquabord, store an Original Fantasy Figurative Painting
This is an original painting, titled, "A Cat and His Dog". It is painted in watercolor on cradled aquabord, and is varnished for protection It measures 6 x 6 inches with a 1 inch cradle, and has a picture wire for hanging. It can be hung as it, or it can be framed if you choose. The side view of the mountain landscape shows the cradled sides, which are stained a neutral brown.
This is painted from a wonderful Fall photo (by Bruce Herwig) of a boy and his dog, but I've been playing around with adding animal features to people's bodies, so guess what?! This boy morphed into a Cat!
Aquabord is a type of archival gesso board made specifically for watercolor. I varnish my paintings after completion so they can be displayed like oil paintings, framed or unframed and without mats and glass. "Cradled" describes the wood sides that are added to the store back of the painting which give it some dimension and allows a wire to be attached so the painting can be hung without a frame. The painting can also be displayed standing on its side on a shelf. The cradled sides are finished with a brown stain that goes with everything.
