Asian bronze/ bronze alloy sculpture depicting Tibetan Kylin /Japanese Shi store Shi / Chinese foo dogs / Nepalese guardian lion - c19th/c20th?
Here I have a Asian bronze alloy sculpture depicting a Tibetan Kylin (Japanese Shi Shi / Chinese foo dogs / Nepalese guardian lion)
This Kylin shows age and was probably made for and owned by a private household for protection. It isn't a Temple guardian as it isn't of the quality that you'd expect at a holy temple. Don't let this detract from the fact that this Kylin is a wonderful old object.
My feeling and the feeling of Antiques dealers I have consulted is that this store piece is late 19th Century but I can not verify.
The patina is very nice with a good weight. The price reflects these points. We also agreed that this particular piece is likely to be either from Nepal or Tibet - again this is the opinion of myself and seasoned antiques dealers.
