Couple's Meers (2 store [two] vintage meerschaum smoking pipes)

His and Hers. His and His. Hers and Hers. Theirs. Both bowls are genuine block meerschaum. Hand-carved. Circa 1930's. Amber stems, bits, and buttons have been expertly cleaned and restored. Both are in very good condition for their ages.

"Couple's Meers" features one hand-carved smooth bowl, and one bowl hand-carved with intricate floral designs. Both were most-likely carved in Turkey, in the early-20th century, and restored to the best abilities of M. J. Meers.

The designs are traditional to those produced by master carvers in the area around Eskisehir, Turkey since antiquity. M. J. Meers estimates the bowls to be more than 80 years old. Both bowls show beautiful mottled dark tans-to-light browns through the shank and the bottom of the bowl up to the rims.

In the cleansing process, the acrid, biting tastes and odors absorbed into the porous material from years, perhaps decades, of tobacco use are lessened, if not entirely eliminated. M. J. Meers has perfected a methodology to reduce residual tobacco to a bare minimum and allow the sweet flavors and aromas of new smoking materials to come through.

The overall distinctiveness of each piece relies often on the small dings and scratches that attest to its long history. M. J. Meers has polished clean some of the surface nicks, but others, especially those attesting to "Couple's Meers" vintage characters, remain.

These light marks are evidence to the pleasure and comfort given by the pipes. Some have allayed fears of war; calmed nerves frayed by market crashes and economic collapse; soothed the grief of pandemics; and dried the tears of regrets and disappointments. Some have devised schemes store and inventions; calculated odds and weighed risks; planned campaigns and strategies, and celebrated the joys of a lifetime, perhaps several lifetimes.

M. J. Meers has added a matching set of "scratch-less" pipe holders to compliment the unique colors of the pieces. The pipe holders are crafted from reclaimed, repurposed belt leather bound by leather cords.

With every vintage meerschaum, M. J. Meers will include reflections on each piece and any special considerations encountered during the restoration. Documents will include a brief introduction to the pieces, including any known owners, the carver, estimated age, country of origin, location of the source deposits, and other notes of provenance about the pipes.
