These are two early examples of law books published in Philadelphia in the early 1800s. The 1st was authored by court reporters Thomas Sergeant & William Rawle, Jr. entitled, "Reports of Cases Adjudged in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania," which was part of series covering decisions by the court annually. This is a 1st edition of Vol. IX, published by M'Carty & Davis, Philadelphia in 1825. The other is a 1st edition of the same title for the year 1833, prepared by William Rawle, Jr. only. It was published by P.H. Nicklin & T. Johnson. Sergeant attended the College of New Jersey (Princeton), studied law in Philadelphia & held a number of positions (clerk of court, state representative, judge, Secretary of State, attorney general, etc.). In 1825, he was Solicitor for Philadelphia County. William Rawle, Jr. was the son of a prominent Philadelphia attorney & US District Attorney.
