Vintage Adrian Cooke Soft Metal Dollhouse Carriage, Stroller & Bisque store Doll, Victorian / Art Nouveau
Antique Soft Metal Dollhouse-Sized Baby Carriage or Buggy by Adrian Cooke Metallic Works of Chicago, Illinois, circa the 1890s. Also included in this listing is a small jointed composition doll made in Japan, circa the 1930s to 1940s. She fits perfectly in the carriage This type of soft metal dollhouse furniture was known as "The Fairy Furniture Indestructible." Research leads us to believe that this type of doll furniture was first displayed at the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago. The date of August 9, 1893 is embossed on the bottom of the carriage. This date coincides with the Chicago World's Fair Columbian Exposition that opened on May 1, 1893.
The soft metal that this dollhouse dining room furniture set is made of has been described as "an alloy of aluminum and white metal." This type of metal is delicate and bendable.
The carriage has a filigreed or scroll-like Art Nouveau design that is very intricate and beautiful. This doll carriage is wonderful for adding authenticity, character and charm for the discerning dollhouse lover and collector.
This beautiful Adrian Cooke baby carriage is a very hard-to-find piece.
The carriage is in very nice antique condition with no breaks but it is missing the umbrella on the back. We have seen carriages with and without the parasol but there is, however, a hole insert for one to be placed if desired. The doll is also in good vintage condition and is included in this listing but could of course could be replaced. There is also a cotton stuffed pad and pillow that came with the buggy so it too will be included.
Carriage measures approximately 5 inches long x 2 inches wide x 3 inches tall.
Doll measures approximately 2 1/2 inches tall.
