This listing includes one three-toed bowl in the Thistle design by Verlys of America.
Verlys of America was established in 1935 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Holophane Lighting Company, Inc. About two-thirds of their molds were purchased from Holophane Francaise in France, while the remainder were designed and made in America.
The color of this piece is referred to as "crystal etched" which was created by acid-treating the molded glass to emphasize the design.
This piece measures approximately 8 5/8 inches in diameter. It sits elevated on three toes which are actually created from the thistles and is a store coupe shape.
Verlys was marked in two ways - a diamond-tipped pen was used to sign the piece, or the same style signature was permanently impressed in the glass at the time it was molded. All first quality Verlys will be marked, with very few exceptions. This piece has the diamond-tipped pen signature, as shown.
This piece is in previously used condition and may show minor signs of wear. There are some surface abrasions, particularly on the "toes". There are no chips or cracks.
