Nice store 1863 Dix Civil War Token The Flag Of Our Union Collectible Old Antique Vintage Patriotic Token Coin 1800's Part of USA American History

Here we have for sale a Dix American Civil War token. On the front are the words: “The Flag Of Our Union” as well as an image of the American flag. The back: “If Anyone Attempts To Tear It Down Shoot Him On The Spot.” This was inspired by an order by US Secretary of the Treasury John Adams Dix to Treasury agents in New Orleans at the start of the American Civil War in 1861. His words were: "If anyone attempts to haul down the American flag, shoot him on the spot." It was in a telegram that the Confederates seized but became widely known and made Dix a hero in the Northern States. Not long after it appeared on patriotic civil war tokens such as this one. This 1860s Dix Token was circulated , please observe the pictures closely to see its condition.
