Vintage Japanese pottery side handle teapot (Yokode Kyusu) of Tokoname ware (Tokoname yaki). Made of black clay (Kokudei). Decorated with persimmon design hand painted and chattering technique on the surface. It's EXCELLENT work. Made by Hirotaka Umehara (Gyokko II). The seal of the potter is stamped on the body.
Yokode Kyusu is a teapot with the handle placed on the side of the pot. The design of these pots makes it easy to pour out every last single drop of tea.
Tokoname ware (Tokoname yaki) refers to a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around the municipality of Tokoname, Aichi, in central Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.
