This upcycled quilted bucket hat has been very carefully constructed for style and durability. I personally cut and sewed it with care from a salvaged vintage quilt, and lined the crown with a contrasting new batik fabric I had on hand.
This pretty hat is a medium weight and will provide a little warmth along with its joyous burst of color. Like a quilt, this bucket hat is washable by hand in cold water, and should be laid flat or hung to dry.
This hat is a Small/Medium size, with a 23 1/2” circumference.
I hope you share my appreciation for the quilter's lovely handiwork on the salvaged quilt pieces that make up this one of a kind hat!
Sewing sustainably is important to me, and I no longer purchase new fabric. Instead I sew new things from fabrics I have purchased in the past, from vintage new old stock fabrics, or from salvaged fabrics, including from quilts that are no longer useable as bed coverings. I love to salvage the usable parts of store an old quilt to create a useful new item of clothing,
I believe that the items I sew from salvaged fabrics extend the useful life of the original artisan's handwork. Having made quilts myself. it's very important to me to honor the meticulous work another quilter put into the construction of their unique and beautiful creation.
Measurements:
Circumference 23 1/2”
Brim 2 7/8” wide
Crown 2 5/8” deep
Top 6 1/2” across
To determine your head circumference for bucket hats, put a string (or flexible tape measure, if you have one) around your head at the angle above your ears and across your forehead where the hat will sit. The length of the string is your head circumference for bucket hats.
