West store African Vintage Ewe Doll

Vintage West African Ewe Doll. Hand carved sculptural figure made by the Ewe people of Ghana and Togo, West Africa. These carvings representing twins or the spirit of twins. Twins or Venovi as store they are often known are good omens, however, if one twin dies a carving is obtained to represent the dead twin and is cared for similarly to the actual child. Often simple garments are made and small adornment are added to these figures.
This doll is carved representing a male figure. He is approximately 7” inches tall, has carved underpants on, that have a dark almost bluish finish to them. He has broad muscle man shoulders and has carved bare feet with a small attached base. His carved facial features are almost comical, having a 1950's appearance, his hair is carved and stained, it also has a slight texture to it. He has no signs of cracking in the wood and is a beautiful warm light brown color.
