When I See a Dogwood is a portrait of a dogwood tree I saw every morning on my drive to work. There are 12 in the edition (second state); 1 print is available from the edition. An Artist's Proof titled Spring Glory is also available, instead of a fractional edition number, it is signed with A/P. This print is a reduction linocut. 7 x 5” image / 10 x 8” paper: Rives cotton rag (French: Arches)
The first state was published in the portfolio On the Drive Home, Brooklyn Art Library, Brooklyn, NY. 2013.
An original, limited edition print is a work of art. The artist draws, creates, and carves the linoleum block, and prints it by hand. To print the block, the artist inks the block with a brayer (roller), carefully lays the paper onto the block, then pulls it through the press by hand. Each color is printed separately, in order; the blocks must be kept in perfect registration. For example, if there are five colors in the print, each color is printed separately, one at a time, and allowed store to dry before the next color is printed. A limited edition, hand-pulled print has the mark of the artist's hand on each and every print. Each impression is approved, signed, and numbered by the artist.
The integrity of an edition of original prints lies in the quality of the materials used. I use acid free natural fiber papers, and professional quality inks selected for their brilliance and lightfastness. Each print comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, that documents the print and edition.
