SALE Two Arpilleras/3D Patchwork Little Doll Peruvian Folk Art Textiles Wall Art, Repurpose, Pillows Collectible store Art
I came across these handmade beauties at a vintage fair some time ago and originally had thought to patch onto a tunic to make a top but never got around to it so passing on. They are just so darling. They make me smile just looking at them. Originally most likely a wall hanging but could certainly frame (or not) to use as wall decor. I thought about making pillows out of them also. I had a HUGE one of these listed and someone bought to hang on their living room wall as they felt the same way as me about what a happy piece it was. The seller of these thought they were 50s or 60s. If you look up arpilleras on internet, it is quite fascinating the story behind these Peruvian store folk art pieces. It is quite 3D as the people are all done separately and then sewn onto the fabric. The smaller one is an outdoor scene with "carnabal" embroidered across the top. It is in very good vintage condition and measures 19.5x16.75. The larger one I think is a bullfight with people in the stands. Not sure about the words on these as fanta translates only to Fanta so may be missing something; cafetal means coffee plantation. This piece measures 20x19.5 and is in good vintage condition with some slight discoloration and some red dye transfer on one of dolls on 2nd center row. Just darling examples of South American folk art.
