The rough stone for these beautiful antique agates was mined in Northern Africa and traded into India where they were cut into beads. Most were then traded back down into Africa. The newest beads were made during the 1800's, but many are much older.
Each stone is unique with different color patterns and striping that is common (and highly desired) of agate. Some even feature orbital designs known as "eyes". These designs were thought to protect the wearer from the evil eye.
The beads range from 32mm to 76mm in length and are graduated from about 12mm to 28mm at the highest points (most of these beads are in a bicone shape so I'm measuring at the middle peak of each bead to give the most store accurate size). Length of strand is approx 27.5 inches of beads.
You will receive the exact beads you see pictured here. The beads are temporarily strung and meant to be used in your own jewelry creations.
This agate beads are indeed antique pieces and their condition reflects that. Worn edges and weathering are a product of time and use...not defects.
