Vintage handmade sweet French peasant Bécassine doll from the pages of the popular comic La Semaine de Suzette by Jacqueline Rivière. She is from the mid-1970s and in great condition.
She has Stockinette hands and face with a needle-moulded nose and painted features. She measures 20.5cm in length. Her legs are wrapped with white yarn to depict her striped stockings. Please note the yarn on her left leg has broke. It is still attached to the leg, but has loosened and lost length. Please see all photos.
Bécassine has her original red umbrella and red gingham checkered sack and her green wool store outer dress and white cotton apron are lovely without any colour fading, stains or tears. There is one loose stitch on her left hand that is holding the gingham sack.
Bécassine is one of the most enduring French comics of all time, iconic in its home country, and with a long history in syndication and publication.
