Product code: Duck Decoy, Antique American store Folk Art Hand Carved, Hand Painted Skoter or Skoater, Unsigned, Old Worn Decoy from the Delmarva

This large wooden duck has been hand carved, hand painted, and it is unsigned, probably from the early 1900s. I don't know quack about duck decoys, but this was store found on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and was from a collector who said that this decoy and another one I have listed separately were in his family for several generations, and these were actually used. Lots of the paint has worn off, especially on the body, and the wood has the roughness and dryness that only comes with age and exposure. The head is securely attached and there appear to be no repairs. The bottom still has its original weight and the ring for its tether and anchor. Someone affixed a label identifying this as a "Lake Skoater", which might have been a mis-spelling of "Skoter", which this resembles. There are some chips and spots where the wood has eroded, and I think that adds to the charm. The decoy is more or less life size, measuring about 13 3/8" long by 5 1/4" wide by 5 1/2" tall. It weighs just over 1 1/4 pounds. In fair condition.
