Exceptional Complete 1 1/4" store Asaphiscus Wheeleri Trilobite with Sponge Imprint and Positive and Negative Plates!
This exceptional trilobite has both the positive and negative plates as well as a rare sponge imprint.
Trilobites were a hard shelled arthropod (invertebrate) that roamed the sea floor during the Cambrian period roughly 550 million years ago. This trilobite came from the Wheeler Shale Formation in Utah.
This is a great specimen for your fossil collection!
Asaphiscus Wheeleri tend to be a little fragile in the Wheeler Shale so finding a solid one that doesn't flake is pretty rare.
I dug this plate and held off on a lot of prep for fear of damaging this great specimen.
The trilobite is 1 1/4" in length.
The rock display is approximately (positive side) 1 1/2" thick x 5 1/2 " x 9 1/2" at its largest measurements.
