A very interesting find.
4 plates measuring 17 cm x 13.5 cm in the inban style of Japanese porcelain.
Inban is the method of firing paper on top of greenware so that the pattern burns into the greenware.
As you can see by the photos, the paper placement is far from perfect which adds to the flavour of store these plates.
These plates were produced quickly at the end of the Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905 to lift the nation's spirits after the conflict.
The flags shown are of course the Japanese Imperial flag on the right and the naval flag on the left.
Th inscription at the top says 'Teikoku Banzai' ( Long Live the Empire) .
The two handsome gentlemen are Yebisu, the God of Luck and on the right is Daikoku the God of Wealth and Prosperity.
Each plate is unique although a matching set. Each plate is not perfect and stacked they don't match which I think is an interesting
uniqueness of these pieces.
Presently shipping with Japan Post EMS where available so please leave a phone number for delivery purposes.
