Collectable, Aged Ethiopian Headrest / Neckrest thought to be from the Oromo Tribes people.
Used as a pillow to protect, often elaborate hairstyles, headrests are personal in design and decoration. Headrests are often passed down through families and when a new one is carved will often follow a traditional design used by their ancestors.
Used also to keep the head above the ground, away from insects. They are also an indicator of status.
Lightweight so can be carried with them on journeys or hunting trips.
A collectable piece of Tribal Art with good signs of age, natural wear and use.
It has an oily patina due to the Shea butter and oils used on their hair. The white specks in the photo's are Shea Butter remnants in the wood grain.
In original condition and has store not been cleaned or waxed.
